The Pinnacle is mostly based on the sixth generation Nissan Maxima, as seen in the overall shape and midsection, with major influence taken from the Ford Five Hundred, as seen in both the front and rear fascias. The Pinnacle appears to borrow some elements from the first-generation Nissan Teana, the third-generation Nissan Altima, and the first-generation Ford Focus sedan. The lettering on the strip above the license plate recess is similar to that on many 1990s Infinitis and Mitsubishis.
The name "Pinnacle" may be a play on "Maxima," as both of the names suggest an uppermost extreme.
