Port Gellhorn: GTA 6's Forgotten Coast Explained
Port Gellhorn is the faded vacation town Rockstar calls Leonida's forgotten coast: cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls, a world away from Vice City's neon. Here is what Rockstar has actually said about it.

Port Gellhorn is one of GTA 6's most-shown but least-discussed regions. Rockstar's official GTA VI site calls it Leonida's "forgotten coast": a faded vacation town of cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls, with a new economy "fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks". Where Vice City is the neon-drenched coastal social hub, Port Gellhorn is the run-down counterweight, first shown in Trailer 1 and profiled again around Trailer 2 and the Extended Look.
Below: what Rockstar has confirmed about Port Gellhorn, what has been spotted in the footage, what earlier coverage (this page included) got wrong, and what is still open.
What's confirmed
From Rockstar's official GTA VI site, which profiled the state's six regions during the Trailer 2 rollout in May 2025, and from the official screenshot gallery:
- A faded vacation town of cheap motels, shut-down attractions and empty strip malls, per Rockstar's official description
- Leonida's "forgotten coast", Rockstar's own label for the region, under the tagline "Live Hard"
- A new local economy that Rockstar says is "fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks"
- One of six named regions, alongside Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park
- Official screenshots: a run of Port Gellhorn location shots in Rockstar's gallery, plus a golden-hour view of the town in the 29-image batch added on August 31, 2026
Seen in the footage, not formally announced
Road signs in the trailers name Kelly County on westbound Interstate 404 (which appears to contain Port Gellhorn) and Mariana County on a sign in Port Gellhorn in Trailer 2. Our Leonida counties explainer keeps those in a lower tier: Rockstar has not published a labeled map, and the western placement is a reading of the footage, not an official position.
What the "working port" reading got wrong
Early coverage, this page included, read the name and the waterfront shots as a cargo-and-container port and slotted Port Gellhorn in as GTA 6's heist hub. Rockstar's profile says nothing about cargo, containers or dock work, and nothing official calls Port Gellhorn a working port or ties any heist, mission or activity to it. Treat the industrial-heist version as a fan theory that Rockstar's own description overtook.
Real-world template
Our real Florida locations guide matches Port Gellhorn to Florida's Panhandle and Gulf coast, the stretch trademarked in real life as the "Forgotten Coast": weathered beach towns and aging tourist infrastructure centered on Apalachicola. That fits a faded vacation town far better than the Jacksonville and Tampa container ports this page once pointed to. Rockstar has not named a real city, so the match is analysis, not fact.
Tonal counterweight to Vice City
Port Gellhorn's tonal role is the anti-glamour district. Vice City represents Florida's sleazy, glamorous, cinematic veneer (the Real Dimez, Boobie Ike, Ocean Beach nightlife); Port Gellhorn represents the faded, forgotten-coast reality of Florida's Gulf Coast.
This is similar to how:
- Sandy Shores (GTA V) is the rural/working tonal counterweight to Vinewood/Los Santos's glamour
- Bohan (GTA IV) is the industrial counterweight to Algonquin's wealth
- Las Venturas (San Andreas) is the gambling-tourism counterweight to Los Santos's gang-territory grit
What Rockstar has not said
- No mission, heist or activity has been announced for Port Gellhorn.
- No named character is placed there. None of the supporting-cast bios on Rockstar's site puts a character in Port Gellhorn: Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest and the Real Dimez are Vice City figures, and Brian Heder works out of a boat yard in the Keys.
- No local faction, crime family or police force has been named for the region.
- No size or position. Rockstar's only map figure is the state-wide comparison it gave The New York Times (three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2); nothing official says how large Port Gellhorn is or exactly where it sits.

Update log
- September 12, 2026: rewrote the page around Rockstar's official description of Port Gellhorn (Leonida's "forgotten coast", a faded vacation town). Removed the working-port and container-yard premise, the Jacksonville/Mobile/Tampa/Pensacola templates, the leak-derived mission list, the speculative crime-family and police details, the "Convenience Store Job" rumor and the "Vice Beach" name; corrected the first appearance to Trailer 1. Retitled from "GTA 6's Working-Port Heist Hub".
