A train is a series of connected vehicles which run along a track, transporting passengers or goods. Trains have appeared throughout the in a variety of designs.
Trains in the GTA series are typically uncontrollable and follow a pre-defined path. For most games, the main (and sometimes only) form of train to appear in the game is a subway train and usually offers the player the ability to travel (or even fast travel) between destinations via the game's subway network.

In the first , the only train to appear in the game is the perhaps aptly-named Train. It assumes the design of a diesel-electric locomotive which tows up to three coaches (also named Train). The train operates along an unnamed train network and stops at numerous underground and overground stations. It does not appear in the PlayStation 1 version due to hardware limitations.
The same train returns in with an updated design, operating along a similar train network around Anywhere City. Like in the first game, trains do not appear in the PlayStation 1 and Dreamcast versions.
