Blitz Play prep: any protagonist boosts a heavy tow truck from a Strawberry yard. Tow it back to Trevor's lockup as ammunition for ramming the security truck.
The Tow Truck (also and formerly named Towtruck) is a hook-and-chain tow truck featured in , , and . It is manufactured by Vapid in the .
The Tow Truck debuted in Grand Theft Auto 2 as a towing vehicle based on the chassis of a , and a cab design similar to certain large trucks in the game (including the Van, Ice Cream Van, Hot Dog Van and the G4 Bank Van); the vehicle is only available with a yellow body color.
Despite its name, the vehicle lacks any towing ability, unlike the Truck Cab and Truck Cab SX. It cannot be obtained by normal means in the original releases.
In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the Towtruck's cabin and front end resembles a third generation .
The front section bears similarities with the Bobcat, only with a slightly larger grille and slightly bulkier design. The rear bed carries a dedicated towing rig with a functional crane arm and unusable amber lights on top. Towtrucks are normally seen in a grayish white color with secondary-colored side stripes on the cab, where the upper and lower borders are actually determined by the primary color. Oddly, the Towtruck shares the same horn with the Super GT.
The Vapid Towtruck in The Lost and Damned is depicted with an older appearance, resembling a Chevrolet C3100 tow truck and a . However, the headlights and grille look like they are from a van, and the windshield and door tops appear to be from a .
The Towtruck is mostly comparable to the Slamvan in terms of design, having almost the same front and cab, with some alterations in the headlights, grille and front bumper, while having marker lights on the roof. The rear bed carries a dedicated towing rig with dual crane arms and unusable amber beacons on the outer sides. The rear bumper is flat and has top-mounted circular tail lights on the outer sides of the bumper, but no reversing lights (like various vehicles). Like the "beater" variants of the Emperor, Sabre and Vigero, the Towtruck features a distorted horn, shared with the beater Vigero.
The vehicle can only be found in a beater condition, with rusty bodywork and faded "Native Engines" logos on its doors. The vehicle spawns in a variety of single colors for the cabin and the bed, and uses plain circular rims similar to the Slamvan, fitted with whitewall tires. Like its appearance in GTA 2, the Towtruck cannot be used to tow vehicles.
