The Sentinel is a recurring series of executive cars featured in both the and , with the exception of . It is manufactured by Übermacht in the HD Universe.
Throughout the 3D Universe, the Sentinel is depicted as a mid-size luxury four-door sedan based on various BMW sedans, with differences in design cues reflecting the game's respective time periods.
*In GTA III and GTA: Liberty City Stories, the Sentinel is modeled after the BMW 5 Series (E34), more specifically the 1994 facelifted model due to the wide grille. The game's design document specifically calls it a 1995 BMW 530i. The rear end also looks very similar to that of the second generation Mitsubishi Diamante. The car is set to spawn in a variety of primary colours, with the bumpers being shades of grey as the secondary colour. In GTA Liberty City Stories, the car's frontal grille design has been modified to display a model badge in place of a hood-mounted ornament. On the PC version of Grand Theft Auto III, the car has a missing texture, causing the car to appear much brighter than on the PS2 version. *In GTA: Vice City and GTA: Vice City Stories, it is based on the BMW 5 Series (E28), but with the square sealed beam headlights that were common in the 1980s and a low-profile body kit resembling those seen on M variants of the E28 and E30. The car's frontal and rear fascias received cosmetic changes in GTA Vice City Stories, including a more aggressive forward-leaning profile in front and more compact rear lights resembling those on a BMW E23; strangely, these changes are absent on the game's XS variant of the car. The car spawns in a variety of primary colours, with the trims found on the windows and on the sides of a secondary colour (set to black in GTA Vice City). *In GTA: San Andreas, the Sentinel is a refinement of the GTA Vice City Sentinel, prominently featuring a leaner front fascia, bringing the general aesthetic closer to the BMW 5 Series (E34). However, the car only features one exhaust outlet, unlike the pair of dual exhausts seen on the GTA Vice City design and more alike the Sentinel in GTA III. Like the Vice City renditions, it has a primary-coloured body and secondary-coloured trims (set to white). *The rendition does not appear to have a clear source of inspiration for its design, but retains its slender four-door sedan look. While the car is not generally associated with any gang, the GTA Advance rendition is an exception, serving as the gang car for an unspecified mafia in the game, taking over the role of the Mafia Sentinel, the mafia variant of the Sentinel.
At one point of GTA IIIs development, the Sentinel was named the "Beamer" (Beamer, or Beemer, is a common slang term given to BMW cars, especially the modified ones). A car of this name was previously featured in , and was also based on a BMW. Meanwhile, a "Sentinal" was also in the process of development, appearing as a modern mid-size car that would go on to become the Kuruma. Both beta cars can be found on the Capital Autos website.
The Übermacht Sentinel in GTA IV is redesigned into a compact two-door sports coupe, heavily based on the BMW M3 (E46). The front fascia is similar to the Lincoln LSE, as seen in the headlight shape and front bumper. The tail light layout, as well as the hood scoop/vents and large rear wing of the XS variant, is derived from the first-generation Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
The Sentinel assumes a more rounded design, with a detailed bumper, flat grille and single headlamps. Two small intakes can be seen on either side of the bonnet. The sides have long vertical vents on the front fenders, angled side skirts and a detail running towards the rear. Also visible are miniscule STD badges in front of the doors, near the side skirts and front wheel wells. The rear end features a standard set of tail lamps on either, and a detailed boot, featuring chrome letterings displaying the car's manufacturer and name on the lower sides, a chrome strip above the license plate, and the manufacturer's emblem above.
The Sentinel spawns in a variety of primary colours on the body and usually with silver or black secondary painted alloy rims, except for one set with gold rims. The vehicle uses 12-spoke rims with a chrome lip around, as well as low-profile tyres.
It is equipped with a GPS system with a female voice, but only if the player leaves the "selected cars" (default) option in the audio menu.
