SMG · 9mm

A precision-built MP5-style submachine gun with tight aim assist — Vice City's most accurate SMG and the backbone of the mid-game arsenal. Stocked at the high-tier Ammu-Nation on the mainland.
The SMG, formerly known as the MP, is a weapon appearing in , , and .
The SMG is based on variants of the real-life : *In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the weapon is modeled after an MP5A3, painted grey. *In Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, it is modeled after the compact MP5K, which has no stock. It is fitted with what appears to be an unusable flashlight. *In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, it is based on the MP5 Reverse Stretch (a version of the MP5 with a hybrid configuration of the MP5K's upper receiver and a full-sized lower receiver and collapsible stock from the regular-sized MP5); the model also contains elements from the MP5SD, such as its barrel.
The prominent characteristic of the SMG is that it is practically larger than the Micro SMG and often symbolizes a better arsenal. Since its introduction in GTA Vice City, the weapon is favored by the FBI agents. All renditions of the SMG hold 30 rounds per magazine.
The MP is one of the few weapons that used real-life names in the original releases of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, appearing as the MP5 in the day-one v1.40 release for the PlayStation 2. It was renamed MP in later releases. Rockstar North remodeled and renamed the weapon in later versions of GTA Vice City, possibly to avoid copyright and trademark infringements.
