The De Santa Family in GTA 5: Amanda, Jimmy and Tracey
The De Santa family in GTA 5 explained: Amanda's affairs and yoga, Jimmy's entitlement, Tracey's reality-TV dreams, and how Michael's family arc resolves.

The De Santa family in GTA 5 is the broken, money-soaked household at the center of Michael's story. Behind the gates of a Rockford Hills mansion, Amanda De Santa drifts through affairs and yoga, son Jimmy sinks into video games and weed, and daughter Tracey chases reality-TV fame. Their dysfunction is the emotional anchor of Michael's arc, and the family's slow, awkward repair is one of the few hopeful threads in the whole game.
Who is Michael De Santa's family?
Michael's household lives at his mansion in Rockford Hills, the affluent Vinewood-adjacent district of Los Santos. The household is made up of four people:
- Amanda De Santa (née Townley), Michael's wife, born in 1970 and aged 43 in 2013.
- Tracey De Santa, their daughter, born 1991 and 22 during the game's events.
- James "Jimmy" De Santa, their son, born 1993 and 20 years old.
The family took the new surname "De Santa" after Michael cut a deal with the FIB and entered witness protection, leaving behind the "Townley" name from his criminal past. Wealth from that deal bought the mansion, the pool and the lifestyle, but it never bought the family any peace. You can read more about Michael's world on the GTA 5 hub.
Amanda De Santa: affairs, tennis and yoga
Amanda De Santa is voiced by Vicki Van Tassel. Before she met Michael Townley, Amanda worked as a stripper (and possibly a prostitute) at a club run by her mother. Years of marriage to a semi-retired bank robber left the two of them, in the game's own framing, barely tolerating each other.
Amanda fills her days with sports and self-improvement that double as outlets for her unhappiness. She plays tennis, does yoga, and shops compulsively. Her boredom and resentment also drive her into affairs, partly as revenge for Michael's own infidelity. The two men she gets involved with are:
- Kyle Chavis, her tennis coach.
- Fabien LaRouche, her private yoga instructor.
Fabien is the one who finally detonates the marriage. During a now-infamous yoga session at the mansion, Fabien attempts a suggestive pose on Amanda, Michael charges at him, and Fabien simply steps aside so Michael falls into his own pool. Humiliated and fed up, Amanda walks out, taking the kids to move in with Fabien.
Jimmy De Santa: entitlement, weed and video games
Jimmy De Santa is voiced by Danny Tamberelli, known to many players from his earlier work on family TV. In GTA 5, Jimmy is the household's resident slacker: a 20-year-old who is lazy, entitled, addicted to video games and a heavy pot smoker.
For most of the story Jimmy blames Michael for everything wrong in his life, mooching off his father's money while contributing nothing. He is also the one who tips Michael and Trevor off about Tracey's secret audition, and later about where Amanda has gone with Fabien. His one redeeming turn comes near the end: Jimmy starts to accept that his problems are not entirely Michael's fault, and begins to exercise and look for work. It is also Jimmy who drives the reunion forward by going home and telling Michael exactly where to find Amanda.
Tracey De Santa: reality-TV dreams and Fame or Shame
Tracey De Santa is voiced by Michal Sinnott. She is written as a spoiled, naive "daddy's girl" whose dialogue mostly plays for comic relief, and her dream is to become a famous performer.
That dream collides with her father in one of the game's standout missions. Tracey auditions for the talent show Fame or Shame, a parody of shows like American Idol and Britain's Got Talent, hosted by Lazlow Jones and filmed at the Maze Bank Arena. She does it without telling her parents, dancing a strip-club routine to Rick James' "Give It to Me Baby." When Lazlow joins in on stage, Michael and Trevor storm the production and chase him down. Tracey's own act, a song called "Daddy Issues," is later forced into the season finale after Michael threatens Lazlow.
How the De Santa family arc resolves
The family's repair plays out across the mission Reuniting the Family, which moves through two key beats. First, Michael and Jimmy drive to a Bean Machine coffee shop in Rockford Hills, where they find Amanda with Fabien. When Fabien starts insulting them, Amanda herself tells Michael to hit him. Michael grabs a nearby customer's laptop and smashes it into Fabien's face, and Amanda admits she misses Michael and asks to seek counseling.
That counseling is the emotional payoff. The De Santas attend a session with Michael's therapist, Dr. Isiah Friedlander, at his office in Pacific Bluffs. Michael and Amanda argue while Friedlander makes no real effort to mediate, but once outside Amanda agrees to come home and give the marriage another shot. By the end of the game, Amanda and Michael remain together and try to maintain a healthier relationship, while Jimmy and Tracey both edge toward something more mature than the spoiled kids they started as. The family is still flawed, but for the first time it is pulling in the same direction.
