A screenshot of a Best Buy affiliate program campaign listing for Grand Theft Auto VI has been circulating across X, Reddit, ResetEra, GTAForums, and Cheap Ass Gamer since the morning of May 14, 2026. The listing — visible in the Best Buy / Impact affiliate dashboard — names a campaign called "GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game)" running May 18, 2026 through May 21, 2026 with a 5% online sale commission for partners.
If the dates are accurate to Best Buy's actual go-live plan, GTA 6 pre-orders would open Monday, May 18, 2026 — three days before Take-Two Interactive's Q4 FY26 earnings call on May 21.
Neither Rockstar Games nor Best Buy has confirmed any of this. This article reports what's being reported, who reported it, and what is and isn't verifiable.
What the leaked screenshot shows
The screenshot — reproduced above as the article hero — shows three fields from the Best Buy affiliate dashboard:
- Campaign: GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game)
- Duration: May 18, 2026 – May 21, 2026
- Compensation: Online Sale: 5%
The "Physical Game" label indicates the campaign is for boxed/disc copies of the game — affiliates earn a 5% commission on physical pre-orders placed through their tracking links during the four-day window. The dashboard view comes from Impact (app.impact.com), the affiliate-network platform Best Buy uses to manage its partner program.
Who reported it first
Three independent sources surfaced the email on May 14, 2026:
- YouTuber FrogboyX1Gaming appears to have been first, going live on stream within hours of receiving the affiliate notification. He confirmed the source as
notifications@app.impact.com and stated he had been a Best Buy affiliate verified through the Impact platform.
- @videogamedeals (Cheap Ass Gamer) posted the dashboard screenshot to X, which became one of the most-shared images of the morning.
- GTA6Alerts shared corroborating video and screenshots.
- Major GTA leak account @HYPEX posted: "GTA 6 PRE-ORDERS LIKELY BEGIN MAY 18. Best Buy just sent out an affiliate email listing a 'GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game)' campaign running May 18–21, 2026."
By midday May 14, the same screenshot had also appeared in threads on r/GTA6, GTAForums, ResetEra, and the Cheap Ass Gamer forums — with multiple posters claiming they had independently received the same notification through their own Best Buy affiliate accounts.
Mainstream press coverage
Within hours, gaming outlets across the spectrum picked up the story as "reportedly leaked" coverage:
Why the screenshot looks credible
Three details have made the gaming press treat the screenshot as plausible rather than dismissing it outright:
- Multiple independent recipients. The same email content was reported by affiliates on at least four separate platforms (X, Reddit, GTAForums, ResetEra) within the same morning. A coordinated fake would be unusually well-distributed.
- Source domain matches Best Buy's actual affiliate platform. Best Buy does run its affiliate program through Impact (
app.impact.com), which is the sender domain shown in the screenshots.
- The campaign structure matches Best Buy's standard affiliate playbook. Short, four-day promotional windows with a flat percentage commission are a recurring pattern in Best Buy's affiliate notifications, including past campaigns for high-volume game launches.
Why caution is still warranted
That said, several caveats apply to anyone treating this as confirmed:
- Affiliate dashboards can list placeholder dates. Marketing campaigns are sometimes scheduled internally and adjusted before public launch. A May 18 start date in the affiliate system does not guarantee a public-facing pre-order page goes live on May 18.
- Screenshots are easy to fabricate. While the multi-source corroboration weakens the fabrication theory significantly, no individual screenshot can be authenticated without Best Buy or Impact confirming it.
- Neither Best Buy nor Rockstar Games has commented. As of publication, no on-record statement from either company exists. Major outlets including Insider Gaming have explicitly noted they are still attempting to verify the email.
- Past pre-order leaks have collapsed. The GTA 6 community has dealt with multiple false-alarm pre-order rumors across 2024 and 2025. Push Square's coverage flagged this directly, framing the May 18 date as another "GTA 6 pre-orders conspiracy theory" until Rockstar or a retailer confirms.
What would constitute confirmation
If the May 18 date is real, three things would surface in the next few days:
- A Rockstar Newswire post — Rockstar Games announces all major GTA 6 marketing milestones through its Newswire blog at rockstargames.com/newswire. A pre-order opening would, by every prior pattern, get a dedicated Newswire post.
- A Best Buy product page going live — boxed pre-orders require an actual SKU page on bestbuy.com with "Add to Cart" enabled. The page going live is the unambiguous signal.
- Other major retailers following. GameStop, Amazon, Target, and EB Games (Australia) typically open pre-orders within the same window when Rockstar coordinates a launch. Multi-retailer simultaneous pre-order availability would be the most-conclusive corroboration.
Until at least one of those three things happens, the May 18 date remains reportedly leaked, not officially confirmed.
The earnings-call timing angle
The most-noted detail in the affiliate listing is the end date of the campaign window — May 21, 2026 — which is the same day Take-Two Interactive reports its Q4 FY26 earnings at 4:30 PM ET. Two readings have circulated:
- Coordinated launch theory. A four-day pre-order window timed to end on the earnings call would let CEO Strauss Zelnick open the call with a quantitative pre-order datapoint to share — a public-relations sequence Take-Two has used before with 2K's annual sports launches.
- Coincidence. Best Buy affiliate windows are typically four days regardless of the title; the May 18–21 span may simply reflect a standard cadence with no strategic alignment to Take-Two's IR calendar.
Either reading is consistent with the screenshot. Neither is confirmed. Take-Two has not pre-committed to any GTA 6-specific announcement on the May 21 call.
What this site will do next
GTA Intel does not publish leaks as confirmed facts. The GTA 6 Launch Desk only carries items officially-sourced to Rockstar Games or first-party press citing Rockstar. This article exists because the meta-story — a widely-circulated retailer affiliate disclosure that every major gaming outlet has reported on — is itself news worth covering factually.
If Rockstar or Best Buy issues an official statement, this article will be updated and the relevant facts moved to the Launch Desk. If May 18 passes without pre-orders going live, that will also be noted here.
