The Road to GTA 6: What Is Done and What Is Left Before the November 19 Launch
Pre-orders, the price and the Extended Look gameplay reveal are behind us. Here is the road to November 19 as it stands: the milestones already passed, the confirmed dates still to come, and the beats Rockstar has not announced.
The biggest milestones on the road to GTA 6 are now behind us. The game has a locked release date, open pre-orders, a confirmed price and, since August 27, a 27-minute gameplay showcase. So what is actually left? Less than there was in July, but every hard date is still ahead. Here is the road as it stands: what has passed, what is dated, and what Rockstar has not announced, on the way to November 19, 2026.
Already done: the pre-order milestone
For context, here is what was locked in over the summer:
- Pre-orders opened June 25, one day after the price was confirmed at $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate.
- GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced.
- The physical copy is a download code in a box, Standard Edition only, and Rockstar's pre-order materials describe the game as a single-player experience. No online mode has been announced.
- Every pre-order, and every purchase before November 20, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack.

Already done: the Extended Look and the gameplay reveal (August 27)
When this roadmap was first written, the next expected beat was Trailer 3, with mid-to-late July, around the World Cup final, as the leading theory (see our Trailer 3 World Cup window piece). That is not how it played out. Summer passed without a trailer, and on August 27 Rockstar released "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" instead: a showcase of just under 27 minutes, premiered on Netflix and then posted free on YouTube and Rockstar's site the same evening. Rockstar did not call it a trailer.
It was also the gameplay reveal fans wanted, "captured entirely from in-game footage on the PlayStation 5" in Rockstar's words. Our Extended Look recap has every detail it confirmed. On August 31, Rockstar added 29 official screenshots to its media gallery.
Trailer 3: not announced
A third trailer has not been announced. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the Extended Look as "one of the hors d'oeuvres" with more to come before launch, but that is a direction of travel, not a date. Treat any Trailer 3 date you see as speculation until Rockstar posts it.
Before launch: the review embargo
Closer to release, expect a review embargo to lift, usually a few days before or on launch day for a title this size. That is when the first scores and impressions land. Confirmed: pre-load begins November 12
Here is a hard date to circle. Digital pre-loading begins November 12, one week before launch, so the full game is ready the moment it unlocks. Rockstar gave a date, not a clock time. Boxed Standard Edition copies ship from the same day, so physical buyers can redeem their code and pre-load too. No install size or unlock schedule has been published; our pre-load guide tracks both.
Confirmed: launch day, November 19

After launch: no online mode announced
GTA 6 ships as a single-player experience, and Rockstar has not announced an online mode for it, at launch or afterwards. Many fans expect one to follow the way GTA Online arrived after GTA 5, but that is precedent, not an announcement. Our multiplayer explainer covers what is and is not confirmed.
The bottom line
The confirmed anchors on the road to GTA 6 are simple: pre-orders on June 25 (done), the Extended Look on August 27 (done), pre-load on November 12, and launch on November 19. The remaining variables are whether a third trailer lands before launch, which Rockstar has not announced, and the review embargo in November. If you are counting down, those are the moments to watch. Everything dated is locked. Everything else waits on Rockstar.

Trailer 3 and the gameplay reveal are no longer listed as pending summer beats: Rockstar released the Extended Look on August 27 instead of a third trailer, and no Trailer 3 has been announced.
