GTA V is the first Grand Theft Auto with three distinct cheat-input methods: typed text codes on PC, button combos on PlayStation and Xbox, and an alternative phone-number system that works on every platform. Below: how each method works, the canonical codes, and the exact 2026 list.

How GTA V cheats work

Text input (PC): type the cheat letters during gameplay. No menu, no pause.

Button combos (PlayStation 3/4/5, Xbox 360/One/Series): enter 8-12 button sequences on the controller. Each cheat has a unique combo.

Phone numbers (every platform): use the in-game cellphone, dial a specific number, press call. The phone-number system was new in GTA V (debuted in IV but expanded significantly in V).

Most cheats are toggleable. Some are one-shots (vehicle spawns). Saving with cheats active disables achievements / trophies for that play session but doesn't corrupt the save (a major QoL improvement over the 3D-trilogy era).

Console button combos

PS3 / PS4 / PS5 and Xbox 360 / One / Series Xbox use identical button-combo sequences within each platform family. For example, PAINKILLER on PS is RIGHT, X, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, R1, RIGHT, LEFT, X, TRIANGLE. Xbox uses the same combo with PS-to-Xbox button mapping.

Note: PS3 and Xbox 360 are the original release; PS4 / Xbox One / PS5 / Series X|S are the Enhanced Edition with the same combos.

What cheats break

Cheats in GTA V have specific consequences:

• Achievements / trophies disable for the current play session when any cheat is active. Re-loading without cheats restores achievement-eligibility.
• The Stock Market mini-game is unaffected by cheats (cheats don't prevent stock-market profit).
• Heist payouts are affected if you're using any cheat during the heist mission itself.
• Crew member stats for heists are unaffected.

What's NOT in GTA V

A few cheats people search for don't exist:

• No money cheats — the GTA series has never shipped a money cheat in single-player. (This is partly to push players toward GTA Online's microtransactions.)
• No no-cops mode in the absolute sense — LAWYERUP lowers the wanted level but doesn't disable wanted entirely.
• No flying cars — V doesn't have the SA-style "cars fly when accelerating" cheat.

Online vs Single-Player

Cheats only work in single-player. GTA Online is rigorously cheat-protected; using cheats in Online lobbies will trigger the anti-cheat system and possibly result in a ban.

Definitive Edition / Enhanced Edition compatibility

The 2022 PS5 / Xbox Series X|S Enhanced Edition preserves all GTA V cheat codes one-for-one. PC text codes, console button combos, and phone-number alts all function identically across platforms. The Enhanced Edition adds achievement support that interacts with cheats as described above.
