Did Rockstar Want Daft Punk for GTA 6? The Rumor, and the Daft Punk Credit That's Actually on the Soundtrack
A rumor says Rockstar's first choice to score GTA 6 was a Daft Punk comeback, with Justice as the backup. It comes from a single unverified post. What is confirmed: Justice composed the score, and one half of Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, already produced Travis Scott's 'RHYNO' on GTA VI: The Album. Here is what is real and what isn't.

Five days after Rockstar named Justice as the composers of GTA 6's score, a rumor started doing the rounds that they weren't Rockstar's first choice. The claim: Rockstar went to Daft Punk first, pitching the duo a final comeback for the GTA 6 soundtrack with an essentially unlimited budget, and Justice got the job as the second option.
If it were true, it would be one of the biggest music stories in games. Daft Punk split in 2021. But it rests on one social media post, and nobody involved has confirmed it. Here is where it comes from, what is actually confirmed, and the real Daft Punk connection GTA 6 already has.
Where the rumor comes from
The claim comes from an October 19 post on X by a music-leak account called hasitleaked, which GTA BOOM reported the next day. GTA BOOM notes that the account has a history in Daft Punk and Justice leak circles and has been right before, but the post comes with no documents, no named sources and no corroboration. Rockstar hasn't commented, and neither have Daft Punk's representatives or Justice.
So treat it as exactly what it is: an unverified claim from one account. It may be true, partly true or invented, and there is currently no way to tell.
What is confirmed: Justice scored GTA 6
Rockstar's October 15 Newswire post, which came with the GTA 6 Launch Trailer, introduces Justice, the French electronic duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, as the composers of GTA 6's original score: the music that plays under missions and the open world rather than on the radio. Rockstar says more on the music is coming, including an official score album.
The trailer itself is set to a new Justice single, "Flower in a Hurricane," featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, which is also on GTA VI: The Album.
The Daft Punk credit that is real
Here is the part the rumor posts tend to leave out: a Daft Punk member is already on the GTA 6 soundtrack. When Rockstar announced GTA VI: The Album on September 17, its list of the first six singles credited Travis Scott's "RHYNO" as produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of Daft Punk. We covered it in our album announcement report.
That is a producer credit, not a reunion, and it isn't billed as Daft Punk. But it means the GTA 6 soundtrack already has a direct line to the duo, which is one reason the rumor felt believable to fans.
Why it sounds plausible, and why that isn't proof
GTA 6's music leans heavily on the French electronic scene. Besides Justice and de Homem-Christo, Etienne de Crécy, another veteran of the same Paris scene, appears on "Sexy Magic" alongside Fred again.., PinkPantheress and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso. Justice also come out of the same world as Daft Punk: their label, Ed Banger Records, was founded by Daft Punk's former manager, Pedro Winter.
That makes a Daft Punk approach easy to imagine, and big projects do approach plenty of artists before settling on one. But plausible isn't the same as confirmed. Daft Punk announced their split in February 2021 and have given no sign of a return, and nothing beyond a single post connects them to a GTA 6 pitch.
What to listen to now
The confirmed GTA 6 music is already worth your time. The first six singles from GTA VI: The Album are out, along with Justice's "Flower in a Hurricane," and the full 34-track album releases with the game on November 19. Our album guide has the tracks announced so far, and our radio stations guide covers the six stations Rockstar has revealed. The Justice score album is still to be announced.
