GTA 6 Is Quietly an RPG: Focus, Body Changes, and a Gym System That Actually Matters
Eat too much and you gain weight. Skip sleep and you look wrecked. Work out and you get stronger. GTA 6 is bringing back San Andreas-style life-sim depth, plus a Dead Eye-like 'Focus' ability. Here is what Rockstar has confirmed and what a creator preview describes.

GTA 6 is shaping up to be the most RPG-like Grand Theft Auto yet. Between Rockstar's own Dazed deep-dive and a sanctioned Rockstar North preview shown to GTA creator The Gaming Gorilla (TGG), who watched developers run the game rather than playing it, the picture is a return to San Andreas-style character depth with a modern combat twist. Here is what is confirmed versus what comes from that single preview.
Confirmed: your lifestyle changes your body
Rockstar has been direct about this in the Dazed interview, and outlets covering the game agree. Your habits shape Jason and Lucia physically:
- Eating affects your weight. Over-eat or under-eat and it shows.
- Working out builds muscle and improves your strength and stamina, visibly.
- Skipping sleep leaves you looking run-down.
This is the San Andreas fitness fantasy rebuilt for 2026, and it ties into the wider appearance layer: haircuts, salon visits, and outfit changes all feed into how the pair look. Rockstar has also confirmed the gym and working out is an optional activity that counts toward completion, so you can chase it or ignore it entirely without being locked out of the story.
Confirmed: Focus is GTA's take on Dead Eye
Combat gets an RPG-flavored ability too. Focus is a slow-motion precision-aiming power, comparable to Red Dead's Dead Eye, that highlights enemy weak points so you can line up precise shots. Treat it as a special ability rather than a fully detailed system, because the exact HUD presentation is not something Rockstar has spelled out.
What TGG describes (single preview account)
TGG's preview went deeper into the numbers and menus than any official material, so the following is his account and is not confirmed by Rockstar. We are also not citing the leaked footage that has circulated for some of these HUD details, since stolen build material does not count as corroboration here.
- A three-bar HUD. Per TGG, the top-left shows Health, Stamina, and Focus as three bars. He says all three can be permanently raised through consistent working out and side activities, and temporarily pushed above their normal maximum with consumables like food, drinks, and protein bars, after which they settle back to the regular cap.
- Focus on vehicles too. He describes Focus also revealing weak points on vehicles, letting you target tires, the engine block, or the gas tank for far more effect than before. Other outlets only mention enemy weak points, so flag this one.
- A genuinely deep gym loop. This was the detail that clearly impressed him. You buy a membership at the front desk, then hit vending machines stocked with items. In his example, a character grabs a protein shake for a temporary strength and stamina boost, then does a bench press for a set of reps that fills a workout ring by roughly a third. Complete three strength exercises and you reportedly earn a timed health boost. All optional, all for minor edges.
- Cars use fuel. TGG says GTA 6 actually implements fuel, with refuelling at gas stations, and even EV charging for electric vehicles. He was quick to add it did not look like a nuisance. This one is TGG-only, so hold it loosely until Rockstar addresses it.
The bottom line
The confirmed layer is already meaningful: your diet, sleep, and training visibly reshape Jason and Lucia, the gym is a real optional pursuit, and Focus brings a Dead Eye-style precision mode to GTA combat. TGG's preview stacks on a three-bar stat HUD, a detailed gym economy, and vehicle fuel that, if accurate, make GTA 6 the most systems-driven entry yet. Everything here is pre-launch and could change before November 19, 2026.
