Can You See Jason Fully Nude in GTA 6? What IGN Actually Saw in the Shower, and What It Didn't
A viral post says Rockstar told IGN you can see Jason 'fully nude in the shower' in GTA 6. Here is what IGN's full interview with Rockstar's Rob Nelson actually says: Jason was naked in the shower when Nelson switched to him, but IGN's reporter later said she did not see full-frontal nudity, and Rockstar has said nothing more. Plus what the age ratings say about nudity, and the rest of the interview.
"You will be able to see Jason fully nude in the shower in GTA 6, Rockstar told IGN." That post from Dexerto on X passed 2.7 million views in a day, and the claim is now all over social media. It is half right.
Here is what is actually confirmed. In a demo Rockstar played for IGN, Jason was naked in the shower when the player switched to him. That is all the interview says. Rockstar did not tell IGN anything about nudity, IGN's reporter has since said she did not see full-frontal nudity, and Rockstar hasn't commented. Here are the exact words, what they mean, and what the age ratings say.
What IGN's interview actually says
On October 7, IGN published its full, unedited interview with Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's co-studio head and head of development, recorded in July while he played about 30 minutes of GTA 6 for IGN's Rachel Weber. Partway through, IGN asks whether Jason just waits around while you play as Lucia:
“He has his own routine where he'll go out and do his own thing. You can switch to him and sometimes he's in the Safehouse, sometimes he's out doing various things.”
After an unplanned encounter between Lucia and a man living in a dumpster, the transcript reads:
[At this point Nelson switches to Jason's POV, where our hero is… naked.]
Oh, or you can switch and Jason's in the shower!
That is the entire passage. The bracketed line is Weber describing what was on screen, and the second line is Nelson reacting to it. Nobody in the interview talks about nudity, camera angles or censorship, and the conversation moves straight on to gyms.
So can you see Jason fully nude?
As far as official sources go, we don't know. "Naked in the shower" and "fully nude on screen" are not the same thing. The viral post merged them and attributed the result to Rockstar.
The reporter who was in the room has addressed it directly. Kotaku spent a day trying to pin it down, and then updated its story: Weber "posted on Twitter that she did not see" full-frontal nudity during the demo. Spanish outlet Vandal reported the same clarification. Kotaku also asked Kinda Funny, which saw GTA 6 at Rockstar too, and found that Kinda Funny was shown a different demo with no shower moment at all. Kotaku asked Rockstar to clarify and, at the time of its update, had heard nothing back.
So the official answer today is that Jason can be naked in the shower when you switch to him, and how much the camera shows has not been confirmed by Rockstar or by anyone who saw the official demo. Some reports have since pointed to leaked footage instead. We don't report on leaked material, so this article sticks to what Rockstar and IGN have published.
What the age ratings say about nudity
The ratings settle one thing: there is nudity in GTA 6. They don't say whose.
- ESRB (US): M for Mature 17+, with Nudity and Strong Sexual Content among the seven descriptors.
- PEGI (UK and Europe): 18, with Nudity and Sexual Content on PlayStation's store.
- New Zealand: R18, with Nudity and Sex Scenes.
- Australia: R18+, with Sex Scenes.
A PEGI summary that was published and then deleted on October 2 went further, mentioning "nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes". Our GTA 6 age rating breakdown has every rating and that deleted text.
Male nudity also isn't new to the series. The ESRB's summary for GTA 5 mentions "a location that includes male cult members with exposed genitalia in a non-sexual context." What would be new is a playable lead, and that is exactly the part nobody official has confirmed.
Rockstar on intimacy: "it has to be done right"
The same interview has the only thing Rockstar has said on the subject. Asked about physical intimacy in games, Nelson said:
“Physical intimacy is a huge part of a relationship, and so it has to be done right. Like anything that we do, we have to iterate and try things and iterate on it until we figure out what feels right.”
That fits the "Sex Scenes" label and what we know about the Jason and Lucia relationship system: a couple you can play as a couple, or not. It does not answer the shower question.
Why Jason was in the shower: the switching system
The more useful news in the moment is the system behind it. Like Michael, Franklin and Trevor in GTA 5, Jason and Lucia carry on with their own lives when you are not controlling them, so a switch can drop you into a shower, the Safehouse or somewhere out in Leonida. And when you are apart, they keep in touch. Nelson again:
“If you want to just spend the whole day out on your own as one of the characters, that's fine; the other one will text you: 'Hey, I'm going to go to bed to lock up, you OK?' All you need to do is respond, 'I'll see you later,' or, 'OK, goodnight,' and that's good enough. If you don't bother to even respond, it may impact your relationship a bit.”
Other details from the full interview, in brief:
- You can text or call Jason or Lucia at any time, and ask the other one to meet you.
- Gyms raise muscularity and strength, overeating puts on weight, and if you go together, both work out.
- Your personal vehicle carries spare outfits and every weapon you have bought.
- You can "rob pretty much anything", down to a headphone shop.
- You can study animals as a collection, a system brought over from Red Dead Redemption 2.
- There are "more radio and in-game TV ads than ever before. A lot more."
