Making money is the entire endgame of GTA Online. Every property, vehicle, and weapon flows from it, and after twelve years of updates there are more ways to earn than any new player can reasonably sort through. The problem is that most of them are not worth your time. Here is what actually pays in 2026, ranked, along with a practical buy order and the single lever that beats grinding harder.
One caveat up front: the exact ranking shifts every week, because Rockstar rotates which activities pay double. For a live ranking that accounts for the current event week, run our Money-Per-Hour calculator, which sorts every major activity by net dollars per hour and has a toggle for active 2x events.
The short answer
If you want the tier list without the detail: Cayo Perico is the best repeatable heist, the Acid Lab is the best passive income, the Diamond Casino Heist is the best crew payday, and whatever Rockstar has set to double money this week beats all of them for as long as the event runs.
Cayo Perico Heist: the solo king
The Cayo Perico Heist remains the best repeatable earner for solo players, full stop. A clean run nets roughly $1.1 million to $1.5 million depending on the primary target and whether you hit the Elite Challenge, and a practiced player can finish one in under an hour. That works out to somewhere around $900K to $1.3 million per hour, which nothing else in the game matches on a repeatable basis.
The entry cost is the Kosatka submarine at about $2.2 million from Warstock Cache & Carry. That is the single best money-making purchase a mid-level player can make. The catch is a cooldown between finales, which is exactly what the next few methods are for.
Acid Lab: the best passive income
The Acid Lab is the most efficient set-and-forget business in the game. Once you finish the First Dose missions and pick up the Brickade 6x6, it produces continuously in the background and earns north of $100K per hour, climbing past $150K with the public-lobby sell bonus. Self-supplying instead of buying supplies pushes the margins higher.
It is cheap to start, runs while you do other things, and the sell missions are solo-friendly. Every serious earner has one quietly cooking while they run heists.
Diamond Casino Heist: the best crew payday
If you have one or more friends, the Diamond Casino Heist is the biggest reliable payout in the game, landing roughly $1 million to $2 million per finale depending on the vault contents (diamonds are the jackpot) and difficulty. It has more setup overhead than Cayo, so it rewards a coordinated crew more than a solo run, but the ceiling is higher.
Cooldown fillers: Cluckin' Bell and Agency work
The smartest grind is not running one method on repeat. It is layering them. While your Cayo cooldown ticks and your Acid Lab produces, fill the gap with the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid or Agency security contracts (the Dr. Dre contract finale is the standout). Both pay well, neither has a long cooldown, and they keep your earnings curve flat instead of spiky.
Bunker and Nightclub: the slow drip
For genuinely passive money, the Bunker (with Equipment and Staff upgrades) and the Nightclub generate stock over real time with minimal input. Neither is a fast earner, but they accumulate while you sleep and sell for a healthy lump when full. They are the foundation of a "log in, sell, log off" routine rather than a grind.
The lever that beats all of it: the weekly event
Here is the thing most guides bury. Rockstar's weekly Newswire update sets specific activities to 2x or 3x money and RP, and during those windows the normal ranking goes out the window. A heist that pays $1.2 million normally pays $2.4 million on a double-money week. The single most efficient way to play GTA Online is to check the Newswire each week and grind whatever is boosted, rather than mechanically running the same activity regardless.
This is exactly why our Money-Per-Hour calculator has a double-money toggle. Flip it on for the active event and the ranking reshuffles to show what is actually worth your time this week.
A practical buy order for a newer player
If you are starting fresh and want the fastest path to real income:
- Grind starter contact missions and the first few story-style jobs until you can afford a CEO office or MC clubhouse.
- Buy an Acid Lab setup and start it producing. This is your passive base.
- Save for the Kosatka and start running Cayo Perico solo. This is your main income.
- Add a Bunker for background stock once cash is flowing.
- From there, expand into the Diamond Casino Heist and Agency work as you find a crew.

The honest read
There is no secret method and no shortcut that beats the basics: own a Kosatka, run Cayo on cooldown, keep an Acid Lab producing, and grind whatever Rockstar has doubled this week. Do that and you will out-earn players who own twice as many businesses but run them at random. The money in GTA Online does not reward how much you own. It rewards how well you sequence what you own, and the calculator is there to do the sequencing math for you.
