GTA IV's Iconic Vehicles and Bikes
Comet, Infernus, Sultan RS, NRG-900 — every iconic Grand Theft Auto IV vehicle, what it's based on, and where to find it in 2008 Liberty City.

GTA IV launched in April 2008 with 150+ vehicles and the most ambitious physics simulation in any open-world game to date. The driving feel — heavier, more responsive, with proper weight transfer — set the GTA IV vehicle catalog apart from earlier games. Below: the canonical icons.
Comet
The flagship sports car. Porsche 911-inspired silhouette, perfect-balance handling, mid-engine layout. The Comet returns from Vice City and San Andreas with significantly improved physics and is the single most-driven sports car in GTA IV. Spawns at high-end Algonquin parking and Bohan dealerships.
Infernus
The fastest GTA IV car. Lamborghini Reventon-inspired silhouette, top-tier acceleration. Spawns rarely on Algonquin and the Bohan parking garage. The Infernus is the fastest-by-stats vehicle in vanilla GTA IV.
Sultan RS
The fan-favorite tuner sports car. Subaru Impreza WRX silhouette, all-wheel drive, the closest thing GTA IV has to a rally car. Spawns rarely as a unique modified variant. The Sultan RS is widely cited as the best-handling vehicle in the entire GTA IV catalog — top speed slightly below Comet/Infernus but cornering significantly tighter.
Cognoscenti
The luxury sedan. Maybach / Mercedes S-Class silhouette, comically slow but visually striking. Spawns at the Maisonette 9 nightclub valet and at high-end Algonquin restaurants. The Cognoscenti is the "limousine driver" car — used by NPCs more than the player.
Banshee
The convertible sports car. Returns from GTA III and Vice City with new physics. Top-tier handling but exposed driver position. Spawns predictably at the bridge piers in Algonquin.
NRG-900
The flagship motorcycle. Honda CBR1000RR-inspired silhouette, the fastest bike in GTA IV. Spawns at biker hangouts and at the Maisonette 9 club. The NRG-900 returns in GTA V and remains a series fixture.
PCJ-600
Returns from Vice City with significantly improved handling. The PCJ is the player's introductory motorcycle and one of the easiest to find — spawns at most Algonquin parking decks.
Hellfury
The Lost MC bike, exclusive to the Lost and Damned expansion. Harley-Davidson silhouette with custom paint. The Hellfury is the only outlaw-cruiser-style bike in the GTA IV catalog.
Faggio (returns)
The Italian-style scooter that debuted in Vice City. Slow, comically small, returns in IV with similar handling and the same naming-controversy footnote we covered in Vice City's Iconic Vehicles.
Annihilator
The military attack helicopter. Mounted machine guns, missile capability. Heavy armor, slow turning. The Annihilator is one of the most powerful single vehicles in GTA IV — if you can reach one, the wanted-level pursuit becomes trivial. Spawns rarely; usually has to be stolen during specific high-wanted-level encounters or via the Brucie helicopter favor.
Maverick (returns)
The standard utility helicopter that appeared in every previous GTA. Lightly-armed, transport-focused. Spawns at Algonquin rooftops and the Liberty City helipads.
What changed in GTA IV's driving
Several mechanical innovations:
- Suspension travel — body roll, brake dive, acceleration squat all simulated visibly
- Tire grip variation — wet roads, gravel, cobblestone all affect handling differently
- Damage zones — front-end damage affects steering, rear-end damage affects acceleration
- Crash physics — Euphoria-driven ragdolls during crashes (we covered this in GTA IV Still Has the Best Physics)
The 2010 Episodes from Liberty City releases (Lost and Damned, Ballad of Gay Tony) added specialty vehicles — the Hellfury (Lost), the APC and Buzzard (Ballad of Gay Tony). Several became permanent series fixtures.
What carried into GTA V
GTA V's vehicle catalog inherited many GTA IV models, often with significant redesigns:
- Comet — V's Comet is structurally identical
- Infernus — redesigned in V
- Banshee — preserved
- Sultan — redesigned, less iconic in V
- NRG-900 — preserved
- Maverick — preserved
- Annihilator — preserved
- Cognoscenti — preserved, expanded variants
The driving model in GTA V is lighter and more arcade-friendly than IV's — a deliberate design choice for V's mass-market audience. GTA 6 leaks suggest a return to IV's heavier feel.
