Every Safehouse in GTA 4 (and the Episodes): Full Location Guide
All GTA 4 safehouses mapped: Niko's apartments, how they unlock, their save and wardrobe functions, plus the safehouses in TLAD and TBoGT.

The GTA 4 safehouses are the small set of apartments Niko Bellic earns as the story moves him across Liberty City, each one a place to save the game, change clothes, recover health, and stash two vehicles. There are six GTA IV safehouse locations in the base game (one of them missable): one in Broker, one in Bohan, two in Algonquin, and one in Alderney, plus separate homes in the two episodes. Here is every Niko apartment, where it sits on the map, and exactly how it unlocks.
How GTA IV safehouses work
Every safehouse shares the same core functions, so the mechanics are worth knowing before the location list. You save the game by sleeping: walk to the bed, sofa bed, or futon and accept the prompt. Saving also fully replenishes Niko's health, a behavior the series has carried since Vice City.
Each safehouse has a wardrobe, marked by a yellow floor marker. Step into it and you can cycle through tops, pants, footwear, glasses, and headgear. Outside, a "Residents Parking Only" bay holds up to two vehicles, which respawn there after you save. Niko never pays for any of these properties: each one is handed to him for free as the campaign progresses. For the full game hub and more guides, see GTA IV on GTA Intel.
Broker Safehouse: the Hove Beach apartment
Niko's first home is the Broker Safehouse, the cramped flat in Russian-influenced Hove Beach that Roman oversells in his letters back home. It sits at the southern end of Mohawk Avenue near Bart Street in Broker, and it is available from the very start of the game during The Cousins Bellic.
This is the apartment that sets GTA IV's tone: a sofa bed save point, a grimy kitchen, peeling wallpaper, and a radio tuned to Liberty Rock Radio. It does not last. During the mission Roman's Sorrow, the Russians firebomb both the apartment and Roman's cab depot, and the cousins are forced out of Broker for good.
South Bohan Safehouse: the second Niko apartment
After the Hove Beach flat burns, Mallorie Bardas lends Niko and Roman an apartment owned by one of her cousins. This South Bohan Safehouse is on the second floor of a run-down tenement on the east side of Joliet Street in South Bohan, Bohan.
There is a quirk worth knowing: you can reach the apartment through its rear door from the start of the game and watch the television, but you cannot save or use the wardrobe until Roman's Sorrow unlocks it. A futon serves as the save point. The South Bohan place is larger than the Hove Beach apartment and serves as Niko's base through the middle of the campaign.
Middle Park East Safehouse: the Algonquin apartment
As Niko's fortunes improve, he moves to Algonquin. The Middle Park East Safehouse is the stylish upgrade, located on the northwest corner of Albany Avenue and Pyrite Street in Middle Park East. It unlocks after a phone call from Roman following the mission Hostile Negotiation.
This is the most comfortable of Niko's regular homes: a king-sized bed, a wine cellar, a flat-screen with armchairs and a leather sofa, a radio set to Electro-Choc, and a laptop for the in-game internet. It keeps the standard two-car bay and full save-and-wardrobe functions.
Playboy X's Penthouse: the missable Northwood safehouse
One GTA IV safehouse location is optional and easy to miss forever. Playboy X's Penthouse, sometimes called the Northwood Safehouse, sits at the Xenotime Street and Galveston Avenue intersection in Northwood, Algonquin, and you only get it by killing Playboy X (Trey Stewart) during the mission The Holland Play.
That mission forces a choice between killing Playboy X or killing Dwayne Forge. If you side with Dwayne and kill Playboy, Dwayne gifts you the penthouse. Spare Playboy instead and you take a $25,000 payment but never get the property. The penthouse is the flashiest home in the game: a jacuzzi, pool table, punching bag, and a stereo on The Beat 102.7. Its wardrobe also hides a bonus, Claude's outfit based on the silent protagonist of Grand Theft Auto III, which can be obtained nowhere else. Alderney Safehouse: the final Niko home
The last regular safehouse is the Alderney Safehouse, on Mahesh Avenue in Alderney City, Alderney, directly across from the Fan Dang store. It is the only safehouse on the Alderney side of the river, and it is handed to Niko by Pegorino capo Ray Boccino via a text message. It unlocks after the mission A Long Way to Fall plus one of Ray's Alderney jobs (Smackdown or Truck Hustle).
It is a basic, slightly run-down place: a bed for saving, a wardrobe, the smallest working television in the game, and a grimy kitchen. It still carries the standard two-vehicle parking bay outside, and it is the final safehouse Niko unlocks in the campaign.
Safehouses in The Lost and Damned
The first episode, The Lost and Damned, gives biker Johnny Klebitz two homes instead of Niko's apartments.
- The Lost MC Clubhouse is the main hub, in a building at Kemeny Street and Berners Road in Acter, Alderney. It is available from the start and is far larger than a normal safehouse, with playing cards, an arm-wrestling table, a pool table, and a QUB3D arcade machine. After the final mission, Get Lost, the surviving Lost members burn it down, and the building becomes inaccessible, though the parking bay outside still works for storing vehicles.
- Brian Jeremy's Safehouse is a dilapidated three-floor corner townhouse on Emery Street in west Tudor, Alderney. It unlocks after the mission Bad Standing, and once the clubhouse burns it becomes the only usable safehouse in the episode. A mattress on the second floor serves as the save point.
The safehouse in The Ballad of Gay Tony
The second episode keeps it simple. The Ballad of Gay Tony gives Luis Lopez a single safehouse, Luis' Apartment, in a historic building on Galveston Avenue just south of Wardite Street in North Holland, Algonquin, only one block south of Playboy X's penthouse. It becomes available after the opening mission, I Luv LC, and stays Luis's home for the entire episode.
The apartment has the full safehouse toolkit: a bed for saving, a flat-screen television, Luis's preset wardrobe, and a two-vehicle parking space outside. To extend a playthrough, the full list of console codes lives on the GTA IV cheats page.
