Everything Rockstar Has Officially Confirmed About GTA 6 (May 2026 Update)
The canonical list of every Grand Theft Auto 6 detail Rockstar Games and Take-Two have actually confirmed: release date, platforms, setting, protagonists, supporting cast, trailers, marketing plans, and the open questions that still aren't answered. No leaks, no datamines.
With roughly 172 days to launch, the internet is awash in rumor, datamine and speculation about Grand Theft Auto 6. This page strips all of that out. Below is the canonical list of every detail Rockstar Games or Take-Two has officially confirmed through the Newswire, the two trailers, earnings calls and on-record interviews. Nothing here is a leak, a datamine, or a fan reading. If Rockstar has not said it, it is not on this page.
The basics
Title: Grand Theft Auto VI.
Release date:Thursday, November 19, 2026, confirmed by Rockstar Games and reaffirmed by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick on the May 21, 2026 earnings call.
Launch platforms:PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
No PS4 or Xbox One version. Rockstar has not announced any last-gen release.
PC version: confirmed by Rockstar, with no release date. It will follow the console launch.
Physical release: confirmed alongside the digital edition. Zelnick told CNBC the launch will include a "big physical component."
The setting
Trailer 2 and the accompanying Newswire material confirmed the game is set in the state of Leonida, a fictional Florida analogue, with these named regions:
Vice City (the urban anchor and the franchise's first return since 2002)
Vice Beach (the Ocean Drive analogue)
Little Haiti (a confirmed Vice City neighbourhood)
Leonida Keys (island chain inspired by the Florida Keys)
Leonida Everglades (wetland region)
Lake Leonida (inland lake)
Port Gellhorn (deep-water cargo port)
Ambrosia (a confirmed secondary city)
Rockstar has not officially confirmed a total map size. Press impressions exist, but Rockstar itself has given no figure.
The protagonists
Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are the two playable protagonists. Mid-mission character switching is confirmed.
Lucia is the franchise's first female playable protagonist in a mainline GTA game.
Both characters' biographies were published on the Rockstar Newswire alongside the Trailer 2 reveal.
The supporting cast (officially named)
The Trailer 2 Newswire rollout introduced these named supporting characters with full bios:
Cal Hampton: bait-shop owner and information broker, based in the Leonida Keys.
Boobie Ike: Vice City rap-industry kingpin and co-founder of Only Raw Records.
Brian Heder: meth distributor operating in the rural northern Leonida wetlands.
Dre'Quan Priest: rap entrepreneur and producer, partnered with Boobie Ike on Only Raw Records.
Raul Bautista: Cuban-American heist architect; the campaign's "the brain" character.
Real Dimez: a Vice City rap duo signed to Only Raw Records.
This is the cast Rockstar has actually named. Any other "confirmed" character circulating online is not from a Rockstar source.
The trailers
Trailer 1: December 4, 2023. Pre-announced on November 8, 2023 for an early-December release; pushed out a day early after the trailer leaked.
Trailer 2: May 6, 2025, alongside a Newswire post about the (then) release date and the start of pre-launch marketing.
Trailer 3: not yet released. See the marketing section below.
The marketing rollout
Zelnick has been on the record several times about the campaign:
Marketing begins this summer (Zelnick to Variety and Bloomberg following the May 21 earnings call). He noted that summer technically begins at the end of June.
Preorders open alongside marketing, so expect them in the same window. There is no live preorder yet; the Best Buy preorder rumor was debunked.
The price has not been announced. Zelnick has previously indicated AAA-standard pricing, but Rockstar has confirmed no number.
The campaign will be "very significant" and built to "reflect where audiences and attention are today" rather than mirror GTA V's 2013 rollout (Zelnick to Variety).
The business numbers
Take-Two FY27 net bookings guidance: $8.0 to $8.2 billion, with Zelnick attributing the figure directly to the November 19 launch on the May 21 earnings call. He said the company expects fiscal 2027 to "establish new record levels of operating performance driven by the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI."
GTA 6's budget is a moat. Speaking at the TD Cowen TMT Conference on May 27, 2026, Zelnick described the massive development cost as "an advantage and an entry barrier" that competitors cannot match.
No mass post-launch staff exodus expected. At the same conference, Zelnick cited low attrition and ongoing work after launch.
The CEO has personally seen GTA 6 gameplay. Zelnick told Business Insider that Rockstar developers have demonstrated the game to him and that he called what he saw "amazing", despite not being a regular video-game player himself.
What Rockstar has NOT confirmed
For completeness, here is the list of widely-asked questions Rockstar has not answered as of today:
The price of the standard or premium editions.
The PC release date.
A Switch 2 version (Rockstar has made no announcement).
A Game Pass day-one release (no Microsoft or Rockstar confirmation).
The exact map size, mission count, or campaign length.
The GTA Online migration story (whether progress or accounts carry over from GTA Online's GTA V version).
Achievements / trophies, modding policy, and system requirements for PC.
Crossplay between PS5 and Xbox Series.
A list of returning characters from previous GTAs. Rockstar has not confirmed any.
If you see one of these "confirmed," check the source carefully. It is almost certainly not Rockstar.
A note on sourcing
This page is the gtaintel Launch Desk standard: officially-sourced material only. Every claim above traces to Rockstar Newswire, the two trailers, the official Rockstar Twitter/X account, or on-record statements from Take-Two leadership. We do not aggregate the 2022 leak, datamines, or unverified insider claims, and we do not present community theories as fact. As Rockstar's summer marketing campaign opens, this page will be updated.
