The Cayo Perico Heist (released December 2020) is the only major GTA Online heist that's solo-runnable. A full cycle runs ~2 hours and pays out $1.5M-4M per run depending on primary-target loot. It's the highest payout-per-time activity in GTA Online and the standard grinder pick for solo players.
Below: the complete solo-runner guide.
Before you can run Cayo Perico:
The heist setup involves:
Initial scouting — fly to Cayo Perico via the Kosatka. The first scouting trip identifies primary target type, secondary loot locations, weapons, infiltration points.
Equipment acquisition — multiple side missions to acquire:
Side loot scouting — identify the secondary loot locations (cash, gold, weapon, painting, art). These are randomised per heist; scouting is required to find them.
Each setup mission is 5-15 minutes. The most valuable setups:
The heist itself is structured:
The optimal solo run uses:
This combination is the fastest possible solo run — roughly 25-30 minutes for a clean infiltration.
Each heist has a primary loot type that's randomised per cycle:
The primary loot is set per heist cycle; you can re-scout to roll for a higher-value primary by switching primary target mid-setup (a known cheese mechanism).
Each heist also has 3-5 secondary loot pickups in different locations on the island:
A complete loot run with all secondaries clears can add $1M+ to the base primary value.
| Phase | Time |
|---|---|
| Scouting (initial) | 5-10 min |
| Setup missions (4-6) | 30-45 min |
| Actual heist | 25-45 min |
| Total | ~80-120 min |
The post-heist finder's fee timer is 2 hours and 28 minutes between heist completion and the next eligible run. This means you can realistically run 3-4 Cayo Perico heists per session.
Rockstar adjusted Cayo Perico in November 2025 with slight nerfs to the side-loot accumulation. The headline payouts remain the same; the secondary-loot ceiling is slightly lower than it was in 2023-2024.
