Cayo Perico Solo Runner Guide: Maximum Payout, Minimum Players
The Cayo Perico Heist is GTA Online's only solo-runnable major heist and the highest payout-per-time activity. Here's the complete solo-runner guide.

The Cayo Perico Heist (released December 2020) is the only major GTA Online heist that's solo-runnable. A full cycle runs ~2 hours and pays out $1.5M-4M per run depending on primary-target loot. It's the highest payout-per-time activity in GTA Online and the standard grinder pick for solo players.
Below: the complete solo-runner guide.
Prerequisites
Before you can run Cayo Perico:
- Kosatka submarine — purchased from the website (~$2.2M base). The submarine is the heist's mission-control HQ.
- Sparrow helicopter — significantly speeds up scouting (~$815K).
- Pavel — the submarine's NPC handler; unlocked automatically.
Stage 1: Setup phase (~30 minutes)
The heist setup involves:
-
Initial scouting — fly to Cayo Perico via the Kosatka. The first scouting trip identifies primary target type, secondary loot locations, weapons, infiltration points.
-
Equipment acquisition — multiple side missions to acquire:
- Plasma Cutter — required for the vault
- Demolition Charge — for breaching specific doors
- Disruption Devices — disable surveillance
- Approach Vehicle — submarine, helicopter, plane, or boat
- Weapons Loadout — usually the AP Pistol + suppressor combo
-
Side loot scouting — identify the secondary loot locations (cash, gold, weapon, painting, art). These are randomised per heist; scouting is required to find them.
Stage 2: Setup runs
Each setup mission is 5-15 minutes. The most valuable setups:
- Approach Vehicle — Sparrow helicopter is the fastest infiltration option
- Weapon Drop-Off — pre-place AP Pistols and the suppressor
- Plasma Cutter — scout and steal from a Galaxy Park location
Stage 3: The actual heist (~30-45 minutes)
The heist itself is structured:
- Approach — fly the Sparrow to the island under cover of darkness
- Compound infiltration — use the drainage pipe entrance (most reliable)
- Primary loot acquisition — the vault, the El Rubio's office
- Secondary loot pickups — collect the side loot (cash, gold, weapons, art)
- Exfil — fly back to the Kosatka
The "Drainage Pipe + Sparrow" meta
The optimal solo run uses:
- Approach: Sparrow (helicopter)
- Infiltration point: Drainage Pipe (south side of compound)
- Suppressed AP Pistol for guard takedowns
- Plasma Cutter for the vault
- Disruption Devices for the surveillance
This combination is the fastest possible solo run — roughly 25-30 minutes for a clean infiltration.
Primary loot tiers
Each heist has a primary loot type that's randomised per cycle:
- Tequila — $900K (lowest)
- Ruby Necklace — $1M
- Bearer Bonds — $1.1M
- Pink Diamond — $1.3M
- Sapphire Panther statue — $1.9M (highest)
The primary loot is set per heist cycle; you can re-scout to roll for a higher-value primary by switching primary target mid-setup (a known cheese mechanism).
Side loot
Each heist also has 3-5 secondary loot pickups in different locations on the island:
- Cash piles — ~$50-200K each
- Gold bars — significant value if multiple
- Weapons — moderate value
- Cocaine / Marijuana — moderate value
A complete loot run with all secondaries clears can add $1M+ to the base primary value.
Time investment per cycle
| Phase | Time |
|---|---|
| Scouting (initial) | 5-10 min |
| Setup missions (4-6) | 30-45 min |
| Actual heist | 25-45 min |
| Total | ~80-120 min |
The post-heist finder's fee timer is 2 hours and 28 minutes between heist completion and the next eligible run. This means you can realistically run 3-4 Cayo Perico heists per session.
What changed in late 2025
Rockstar adjusted Cayo Perico in November 2025 with slight nerfs to the side-loot accumulation. The headline payouts remain the same; the secondary-loot ceiling is slightly lower than it was in 2023-2024.
Tips
- Always scout before setup — the primary target rolls every scout
- Save your loadout — the AP Pistol + suppressor combo is the meta; don't experiment
- The Sparrow's stealth is fragile — fly low, avoid red zones
- The drainage pipe entrance is significantly faster than the main gate
- Don't engage El Rubio's guards if avoidable — combat triggers reinforcements
