The GTA Online Grinder's Playbook: Money Per Hour in 2026
Cayo Perico, Auto Shop, Acid Lab, special-cargo crates — the canonical 2026 GTA$ grinder playbook, with hourly rates and cycle times.

After twelve years of GTA Online updates, the money-per-hour grinding meta has settled into a relatively stable hierarchy. The 2026 playbook for grinders chasing GTA$ optimisation is consistent across most legitimate guides: Cayo Perico, with supplemental businesses run between heists.
Below: the canonical 2026 grinder playbook with hourly rates.
The optimal grind loop
In 2026, the optimal solo grinder loop is:
- Cayo Perico (~$1.5M-2M per run, 80-100 minutes) → $1M-1.2M/hour
- While Cayo Perico is on cooldown (2.5 hours between heists), run:
- Acid Lab sells (~$385K, 25 minutes) → $900K/hour
- Auto Shop contracts (~$300K, 30-40 minutes) → $500K-600K/hour
- Salvage Yard contracts (~$150K, 20 minutes) → $450K/hour
Average over a focused 4-hour session: $5-7M GTA$ per session.
Cayo Perico specifics
The single highest-payout activity:
- Solo run: ~80-100 minutes per cycle
- Cooldown: 2 hours 28 minutes between completions
- Primary loot variance: $900K-$1.9M (depending on rolled target)
- Secondary loot: ~$400K-700K additional
- Total per cycle: $1.5M-2.6M
Maximum per-hour: ~$1.2M-1.5M during active heist time.
We covered the run details in Cayo Perico Solo Runner Guide.
Acid Lab — the quick supplement
Best between-heist content:
- Setup time: 0 minutes (production runs in background)
- Sell mission: 20-25 minutes
- Payout: ~$385K per full sell
- Per-hour rate: ~$900K
The Acid Lab is the most efficient "quick" income in GTA Online — better than any heist setup-fee mission per minute.
Auto Shop contracts
A reliable mid-tier:
- Setup time: 0-15 minutes (varies by contract)
- Active mission: 30-40 minutes
- Payout: ~$300K per contract
- Per-hour rate: ~$500K-600K
Auto Shop contracts have 5 contracts available simultaneously; you can chain 3-4 contracts in a single session for ~$1.2M.
Salvage Yard contracts
The supplemental tier:
- Daily contract limit: 1 active contract per real-world day
- Active mission: 20-30 minutes
- Payout: ~$150-200K per contract
Best run as a rotation supplement when other businesses are on cooldown.
Special Cargo / CEO Vehicle Cargo
Less popular than 2017-2020:
- Setup time: 1-2 minutes per crate
- Active mission: 5-10 minutes per crate
- Payout: ~$30-50K per crate
- Per-hour rate: ~$300-400K
The economics changed when Cayo Perico went live — special cargo's per-time rate is one-third of Cayo Perico's. Most grinders skip special cargo.
What's NOT in the optimal grind
A few activities that are popular but less-optimal:
- MC business sells — $200-400K per cycle but 30+ minutes, ~$400K/hour. Decent but supplanted by Acid Lab.
- Bunker sells — similar profile to MC. Decent but not optimal.
- Hangar special cargo — slow source-and-sell loops. Skip unless you specifically want the variety.
- Casino gambling — house-edge loses money over time. Don't.
Daily activities to layer on top
Quick-add daily revenue:
- Lucky Wheel daily spin — average $100-200K equivalent value
- Casino Story Missions — ~$50K per completion
- Stunt Race — ~$25K per win
- Survival — ~$25K per round
- Daily Objectives — $40K base reward
These add ~$250K per real-world day on top of grinding.
What's the cap?
A focused 8-hour session with optimal play can produce:
- 3-4 Cayo Perico runs × $1.7M = $5.1M-6.8M
- Acid Lab sells × 3-4 = $1.15M-1.5M
- Auto Shop contracts × 2 = $600K
- Daily Lucky Wheel = $150K equivalent
- Total: ~$7M-9M per 8-hour focused session
Tips
- Save before Cayo Perico — failed runs cost the setup investment without payout.
- Run businesses in parallel with cooldowns — don't waste the 2.5-hour Cayo Perico cooldown on free-roam.
- Stockpile chips at the casino — daily wheel + occasional gambling for variety.
- Don't pay for cheats — modder accounts get banned eventually.
- Don't double-up on heist hosts — host fees compound.
What's coming
GTA Online updates have slowed in 2025-2026 as Rockstar shifts to GTA 6. Don't expect new major heists or businesses in 2026 — smaller content drops and seasonal events only. The Cayo Perico grind will remain the meta until GTA 6 Online launches.
