GTA 6 Is Reportedly Coming to PC in Early 2027: What the Report Says, and What Rockstar Hasn't Said
GamesBeat reports that Rockstar plans to release GTA 6 on PC between January and March 2027, citing four industry sources. That would be the fastest PC version of any 3D-era GTA by months, and a sharp break from GTA 5's 19-month wait. Rockstar hasn't confirmed it. Here is what the report says, what it leaves out, and when an official announcement could realistically come.

PC players finally have a window to circle, even if Rockstar hasn't drawn it. GamesBeat reported on October 13 that Rockstar plans to release the PC version of GTA 6 "within the first three months of 2027." Reporter Alexander Lee says four industry sources familiar with the studio's plans confirmed it, all of them anonymous to protect their business relationships. Rockstar did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment.
If the report is right, PC players would wait somewhere between six weeks and just over four months after the November 19 console launch. That is a very different picture from the one Rockstar's history had painted, including in our own PC explainer, where the track record pointed to late 2027 at the earliest.
Here is what the report says, what it leaves out, and how much weight to put on it.
What GamesBeat reported
The claim itself is narrow: a PC release in the first quarter of 2027, so January, February or March. There is no specific date, and nothing about which stores it would launch on, whether that is Steam, the Epic Games Store or Rockstar's own launcher.
GamesBeat's case for a quick port is mostly about audience. The report says GTA 5's players lean heavily toward console, but for a game this expensive, PC players are a significant extra audience, and Rockstar has every reason to reach them quickly. It also points to roleplay. Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM roleplay framework, in August 2023, and FiveM runs on the PC version of GTA 5, so every server built on it is a PC server. If roleplay and player-made content are part of GTA 6's long-term plan, a PC version has to exist first. Our FiveM explainer covers why that acquisition matters.
The report also ties PC to online play, citing Twitch CEO Dan Clancy's comment to Bloomberg that GTA 6's online mode arrives in 2027. Rockstar has not given a date for online, as we noted when Clancy made the claim.
Two details deserve a footnote. GamesBeat describes the budget as rumoured to exceed $2 billion, but a day later Rockstar's head of publishing, Jennifer Kolbe, told Bloomberg that the popular rumour of a cost above $1.5 billion is wrong, while still declining to give a figure. We cover that interview in our Bloomberg breakdown. And GamesBeat adds its own caveat: the PC version still has to pass the same quality bar as the console game before it ships. A window is a plan, not a promise.
How fast would that be?
Every 3D-era GTA has come to PC after consoles. None has come this quickly.
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 3 | October 2001 | May 2002 | About 7 months |
| GTA Vice City | October 2002 | May 2003 | About 6.5 months |
| GTA San Andreas | October 2004 | June 2005 | About 7.5 months |
| GTA 4 | April 2008 | December 2008 | About 7 months |
| GTA 5 | September 2013 | April 2015 | About 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | About 12 months |
| GTA 6 (reported) | November 2026 | January–March 2027 | 6 weeks to just over 4 months |
The PS2 games, and GTA 4 after them, reached PC roughly seven months after consoles. Rockstar's two most recent epics took a year or more. A first-quarter launch would beat every one of them, and it would land inside the same Take-Two financial year as the console launch, since the publisher's fiscal year ends on March 31. That last point is our observation, not something GamesBeat reported, but it is the kind of timing a publisher notices.
What Rockstar and Take-Two have actually announced
Nothing about PC. The official platforms are still PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, on November 19. There are no official system requirements and no PC pre-orders on any store. Any "official PC specs" you see are made up, and any "GTA 6 PC download" is a scam, as we explain in our download scam warning.
Streaming isn't a back door either. Xbox's chief strategy officer Matthew Ball has ruled out playing GTA 6 on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming, as we covered in our cloud streaming explainer.
How much to trust it
There are good reasons to take it seriously. Four sources is more than most GTA 6 rumours ever get, GamesBeat is a games-business trade outlet rather than an anonymous account, and the claim is specific: a quarter, not a vague "after launch." The logic also fits where Rockstar has been heading, from the Cfx.re purchase to its push into player-made content.
There are also reasons for caution. The sources are anonymous and the report doesn't say how they know. Rockstar hasn't commented. And release windows move. GTA 6 itself has slipped twice, and GTA 5's PC version was first announced for fall 2014, then slipped three times before it landed in April 2015.
The fair reading: early 2027 is the best-sourced PC timing anyone has published, but it is a report, not a release date.
When Rockstar could announce it
Rockstar has revealed PC versions at very different distances from release. GTA 5's PC version was announced at E3 in June 2014, about ten months before it shipped. Red Dead Redemption 2's was announced on October 4, 2019, about a month before its November 5 release. If GTA 6 really is aiming for early 2027, the Red Dead pattern suggests an announcement could come after the console launch, and with little warning.
The next scheduled moment to watch is Take-Two's second-quarter earnings, released after the market closes on Monday, November 9, with a conference call at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. It is Take-Two's last scheduled earnings call before launch, so it is the next place a PC question could get an on-record answer.
What PC players should do now
The choice is the same as it was last week, just with a shorter wait attached. Either hold out for an official PC announcement, or play on a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S on November 19; our PS5 or Xbox guide can help with that decision. If you wait, your biggest problem for a few months will be spoilers, so set up the filters in our spoiler avoidance guide before launch week.
